Challenges with SAP Fiori Groups Concept

Tiles from all user-assigned groups are consolidated onto a single page.

  • System Performance: Loading a large volume of tiles can significantly impact system performance.
  • User Experience: An excessive number of tiles assigned to a user can make the Fiori launchpad appear cluttered, resulting in an unfriendly user experience.
  • Navigation: Users are required to scroll through the page to access applications, either by selecting specific groups or by scrolling through the entire page.

To address these challenges and enhance the user experience, SAP introduced a new concept called Spaces and Pages, starting with SAP S/4HANA 2020.

The Fiori Groups mode will soon be deprecated, meaning it will become obsolete. In this blog post, we will explore how to effectively utilize the new Fiori mode, Pages and Spaces.

SAP also delivers standard Pages & Spaces.

Introduction to SAP Fiori Spaces and Pages

Spaces & Pages is a newly introduced launchpad layout in SAP S/4HANA, serving as an alternative to Groups—at least for the time being.

With the release of SAP S/4HANA Cloud 2008 and SAP S/4HANA (on-premises), SAP unveiled two new applications: “Manage Launchpad Spaces” and “Manage Launchpad Pages.” The Space mode provides enhanced flexibility for utilizing the launchpad layout. Spaces are assigned to specific business roles. Pages are allocated to users through these spaces. Each page comprises sections, and each section contains tiles. Tiles or apps are assigned to the respective pages.

What is a space

  • A space serves as a unit that contains one or more pages featuring tiles.
  • Spaces are designed to create the layout for launching applications.
  • These entities combine multiple pages into a structured menu.
  • The pages linked to spaces include Fiori tiles. Spaces are assigned to users based on their Business Roles, like how we assign Groups in roles.
  • Users can be assigned to more than one space. The assigned spaces are visible on the navigation bar, allowing users to easily switch between them.
  • Spaces are designed to enhance flexibility in content organization by offering multiple role-based pages for users to access their SAP Fiori launchpad content, rather than relying on a single homepage.

What is a Page

The page is an integral component of a space that organizes apps into various sections.

  • The pages are prominently displayed in the main area of the launchpad.
  • The “Maintain Launchpad Pages” app is utilized for managing and maintaining pages, which includes functions such as editing, copying, or deleting existing pages.
  • The relationship between pages and spaces is characterized by a many-to-many connection.
  • A single page can be associated with multiple spaces, while a space can encompass more than one page.
